Genetic information
Polymorphism in the interleukin-1 gene is associated with severe periodontitis in adult patients. This genetic trait is frequently found in patients without demonstrable Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans and Porphyromonas gingivalis. The presence of allele 2 in the IL-1A, IL-1B and IL-1RN gene is a risk factor for severe periodontitis. Allele 2 at IL-1RN gene is associated with peri-implantitis.
